There is a big difference, and often, a big gap between return to play and return to performance. Sports Reconditioning is the in-between phase of full-on physical therapy (working toward return to play) and traditional sports training (return to performance).
In this phase, the main focus is two-fold:
We are trying to increase your ability to tolerate performing at a level that is satisfactory to your particular sport or league without re-injury. A rec league athlete is going to have a different bar for return to performance than a college athlete.
We are trying to help you navigate and bolster you against problems that can come up along the way. If you go through rehab and we make big changes (like how you run), your body is going to have some adjustment pains during this reconditioning phase. While these pains are not an issue themselves, they can definitely become an issue if things are not addressed in a timely and appropriate fashion.
The Reconditioning Phase is where we build capacity and tolerance for your sport. Usually there is minimal need for hands-on treatment (massage, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, dry needling, etc).
Welcome to sports performance training!
Sports Training focuses on increasing your speed, power, strength, mobility, endurance, balance, and coordination as it applies to your sport. If you want that competitive edge, then let's go!
